Roughly one week ago your school sent all of you home because of a global pandemic. The COVID-10 Coronavirus outbreak has changed life as we know it. We now spend our days and nights together under the same roof. We’ve managed to go out for walks and hikes on a regular basis but these are scary times.
It’s only been one week and we may need to quarantine for months, but I plan to journal it and offer some lessons learned.
Here are a few that come to mind at this stage:
- Mediation is so important. I started meditating about 50 days ago utilizing the Waking Up App by Sam Harris, and it has been so helpful in coping with these times and life in general. It has reduced the urge to get angry or disappointed. He also has a book called Waking Up.
- Savings are critical to survival. Save money and limit spending, always. It’s important that when things happen like this pandemic, you have money to help you make it through.
- Exercise is the best immune system booster. You need to move every day, both for your muscles, and your heart. People who exercise and stay in shape can avoid or fight off viruses quicker than most.
- Eat right. This is obvious but not always easy. Limiting meat and eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables will also go a long way in your overall health.
These are items that I have written about before.
I will continue to journal through this time.
On a positive note, I am looking forward to spending time with all of you during this quarantine.
Love,
Dad
