The word accountable may be on of the most important in designing your life. It is defined as (of a person, organization, or institution) required or expected to justify actions or decisions; responsible.
Here’s what it really means: You need to force yourself to build good habits OR ELSE you probably won’t.
Here are some examples…
If you want to exercise every day, find a friend who will walk or jog with you every day, and set a standing appointment and meet them EVERY DAY. You’re more likely to do it if you are meeting someone else because you won’t want to let them down.
If you want to save money (and you should), set up an automatic withdrawal from your main bank account to a savings account. This will ensure it happens automatically and it will force you to ensure there is enough money there, rather than you manually making a transfer from time to time.
If you want to read more, join a book club with regular meetings where you have to discuss what you read. You’ll read so you can be involved in the discussion.
Essentially what I am saying is that it’s often hard to build good habits or do things that are good for you without outside pressure or accountability. That’s just the way it is, even if we think we can do it on our own. So please, build accountability into your life.
I recently started a family hiking group in our town to make sure our family hikes together once a week, at least. Accountability.
Happy trails,
Love,
Dad
